How far will you travel?

We're happy to travel to sessions nationwide (or even abroad if need be). We're based in Fernhurst, near Haslemere in Surrey, and any sessions within 10 miles of us don't incur any travel fee. Sessions beyond 10 miles incur a travel fee of £0.50p per mile for the first 150 miles of a return trip and £0.16p per mile for anything over that. The first 20 miles of a return trip are free. Subject to that, and to the payment of expenses if air travel or an overnight stay is required, we're happy to come to you wherever you are.

Do you provide both colour and black & white photos?

Yes. We use Nikon DSLR cameras which take colour digital images. However, when we work on them after the session some of those images will strike us as being better in black & white whilst others will work better as colour. Typically you'll get a 60/40 split between colour and black & white images from a session to choose from on your gallery. But (and this is a good but), because we use digital photography, all images are available in both colour and black & white, so if we've shown you an image in black & white, say, but you'd rather have it in colour, that's absolutely fine - just let us know.

How will my child react to having a camera pointed at them?

Every child is different. Some take to it immediately, with others a little patience is required. But at Cheeky Monkey Photography we have plenty of experience with children and our natural style of reportage photography means that children very soon relax and forget the camera is there - leaving them to do what they do best: have fun.

Should I do anything special for the occasion?

Not unless you want to. If you'd like to dress up, that's fine. If you don't, then that's also fine. Our only advice is to have a quick tidy up before the session, on the basis that clear surfaces look better on 'film' than cluttered ones. But even then, if you don't want to bother then that's fine. Our style of photography means that whatever you do, whatever you wear, or wherever you happen to be, chances are you and your children will both look great.

Do you offer gift vouchers?

Yes, we do. In any denomination and for any Cheeky Monkey Photography services, which means they can be redeemed against the session fee, travel fee, or the cost of prints or other merchandise. You just tell us how much you want to spend and we'll let you have a voucher to cover it. Vouchers must be redeemed within six months. At the moment payment for vouchers can only be accepted by cheque.

What are your delivery times?

If you pay online (by PayPal or credit card via WorldPay) then we ask you to allow at least 14 days from the date of order. If you have ordered canvas prints or any other merchandise please allow at least another 7 days on top of that. For PhotoBooks please allow at least 28 days (as these require some additional work on our part and are then printed in Spain). If you choose to pay by cheque then please allow at least another 5 working days from the date we receive it (as we have to wait for it to clear before we can process your order).

Do I have to buy prints?

Not at all. A week or so after your session we'll let you see your proofs in a secure online gallery. If you want to buy prints or any other merchandise at that point (and we think you will), great. If you don't, then that's fine. All we ask is that you pay the session fee and any travel fee on the day of the session. There's no hard sell.

Am I likely to see my photos on your website?

Possibly. Copyright in all images shot by Cheeky Monkey Photography remains with us. That means two things: firstly, you cannot use any of the images you buy from us for any commercial purposes without our permission, and secondly, we retain the right to use the images for self promotion, editorial or commercial use. We do recognise, however, that you may consider certain images to be so personal that you would prefer us not to use them. If that's the case then please let us know as soon as possible after the session and we'll do our best to ensure they're not used.

What happens if I have to reschedule, for example if my child is ill?

So long as the session is rescheduled or transferred to someone else then there is no charge. A charge will be made for cancellations (where the session is not rescheduled) made with less than 24 hours' notice; the charge will be the session fee. If we travel to you for a session and for whatever reason you're not there, then in addition we will charge you the travel fee (or an equivalent if you're within 10 miles of Fernhurst).

What about cropping?

We wil crop your images unless you tell us otherwise, or unless we feel that cropping would result in a completely different image to the one you ordered. Cropping means that the image will fit your chosen paper size perfectly, but that some of the image may be lost. You can choose not to have your image cropped (by writing the image number next to the words NC in the comments section of the ordering form online) in which case none of the image will be trimmed away but if it doesn't fit perfectly white borders will be left on two sides.
